Located along 6 miles of Pacific coastline in northern San Diego County, Encinitas was incorporated as a city in 1986 and has a population of about 600,000. It has beautiful beaches where the surfing is unbeatable with many surf contests throughout the year.
The largest industry in the city is ornamental flower growing, including poinsettias which has caused Encinitas to be given the name “Flower Capital of the World.” Quail Botanical Gardens is also a beautiful place to visit with a rainforest and large display of flowers and plants and a huge collection of bamboo. The San Elijo Lagoon Reserve is the largest coastal wetland in San Diego County and home to almost 300 species of birds.
