Ocean Beach, California
Located at the western end of Interstate 8, Ocean Beach is a coastal town in San Diego. It lies at the mouth of the San Diego River, south of Mission Bay and Mission Beach and north of Point Loma. Ocean Beach is approximately 7 miles northwest of Downtown San Diego. The hub of the town is located on Newport Avenue which has a variety of shops including antique stores, restaurants, coffee shops, and surf shops, as well as an international youth hostel. Every Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., there is a farmers market on Newport Avenue and two blocks are closed to vehicles. Very few chain businesses exist in Ocean Beach, and many residents oppose the introduction of such businesses. The northern end of Ocean Beach’s waterfront is a leash-free dog beach known as Dog Beach, alongside the waterway that empties the San Diego River.
Ocean Beach residents exercise their probate needs at the Madge Bradley Courthouse located on 1409 Fourth Avenue in downtown San Diego. The business office there is on the third floor and it is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m to 3:30 p.m.
